What is Retinal Photography?
Retinal Photography is used throughout the diagnosis and treatment of many retinal diseases. The term encompasses various types of high-resolution digital photography diagnostic equipment, used to capture detailed images of the eye.
With the use of special lenses and advanced image sensors, diagnostic machines such as Retinal Topographers, Fluorescein Angiograms, and Fundus Cameras allow us to see through, to the cornea, and to capture images of the back of the eye. These photographs are used to diagnose and track eye conditions.
Computer software is used to analyze the digital images to improve their contrast, to automatically highlight areas of possible interest, and to generate montages depicting various images over time.
Retinal Photography is an invaluable tool for the detection of potential problems, and for tracking the treatment of retinal diseases.
